Words of Others

Best effort? (streamyx again...)
"I hate the words 'best effort'!", Energy, Water and Communications Minister Dr Lim Keng Yaik said emphatically and repeatedly during his keynote address at the opening of the iBurst International Forum in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
"You charge me the price for 1-meg (Mbps), and your speed is much slower than that... hehehehe... it's like a running race, you said you can do it, and the bugger finished last, and then say you have tried your best... BEST EFFORT? You can't deliver, you get out of the business!" Dr Lim said. (more on Screenshots)
Duhhh.... C'mon la Dr Lim, u are a doctorate, u shud know better about ADSL technology (Streamys) than us. About ADSL aka Streamyx
- Its riding on existing copper line (some copper line may very old n rusty). This resulting in poor delivering of the data
- Many areas are remote and/or low take up rate, no other provider wants to invest there. We have to use the old n existing infra to serve. We oso wants to do business maa...
- High density and/or high take up rate areas, sure got other competitor coming in, we oso give good infra. No problem here
- The technology itself is a 'best effort'. No guarantee. If u want a guaranteed speed, u can always subscribe to TMnet direct. But then u guys complaint about the price. Good service comes with 'good' price. U all knows that.
Thats why I love with what I'm doing now. Only deal with big customer. They always subscribe for best services (Metro Ethernet, IPVPN, VSAT, TMNET Direct, etc) and hardly complaint.
Its like u buy Kancil 660 and whine about the speed that dont match Ferrari, seat not as comfy as Merc and not spacey as Perdana.
My advise : If u got Kancil, dont put turbo in it, it will look very stupid. Get a spoiler that can fly. Hehe...
